The Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) is the professional society representing those practicing the field of fire protection engineering. The Society has approximately 4500 members in the United States and abroad, and 57 regional chapters.

Here at The University of Maryland, we have an SFPE student chapter. The University of Maryland has the only Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) fire protection engineering program in the United States . The University also holds one of two graduate programs in the country, making us a very unique department.

SFPE student chapter members are given a chance to interact with fellow fire protection engineering students as well as professionals within the fire protection industry. Meetings are held regularly  and include social functions and guest speakers from the field.  All fire protection engineering students are strongly encouraged to join.
